Biography
Graduated in Pharmacy at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, PhD in Sciences at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Currently professor at the Federal University of Santa Catarina and coordinate the Laboratory of Stem Cell and Bioengineering, at the Department of Cell Biology, Embryology and Genetics. The Laboratory investigates the role of mesenchymal stem cells in the repair of neural injury as well as bone regeneration. Three-dimensional scaffolds for cultivation and maintenance of mesenchymal stem cells are one of the lines of research of the Research Group. The Laboratory investigates novel strategies for ex vivo expansion of hematopoietic stem cells. The amplification of hematopoietic stem cell can target allogeneic bone marrow transplantation for the treatment of hematopoietic malignancies.
